For 3-Part Mixed or Unison Voices
This richly beautiful song is based on Johann Pachelbel's famous chord progression for his Canon In D. There are variations, however, from the original, and the actual melody and countermelodies, are never used. Instead, there is an original melody which tells the story of a little baby "who loved with all his heart." Right off the bat, you could read a sacred theme into this text, even though it never specifies anything sacred.
This song is very special to us, and over the years it has remained a favorite to us and to the many thousands of schools who have used it.
The amazing Performance/Accompaniment recordings are excellent resources on this song for just listening. The full version includes the children's voices and could be used as a teaching reference. It is also a joy to listen to for the sheer pleasure of it. The accompaniment track reveals the orchestration more clearly because there are no children's voices on it. Enjoy the powerful orchestration and the big ending.
This special song works for a wide variety of ensembles, and would make a great way to combine classes capable of performing unison, 2-Part, and 3-Part mixed arrangements.
