This arrangement of "Kumbaya" is quite unique as it is done in somewhat lively African style instead of the usual folk-ish type arrangement. Geared toward older students, this arrangement includes three different parts. The accompaniment establishes the pulse with percussion. It uses congas, udu, log drum, shekere, and shells, as well as a djembe. But this song is so versatile, you may choose to do your own percussion or sing it a cappella.
This is a great cross-curricular song, whether you use it for Black History Month or any time of the year. (from Music K-8, Vol. 16, No. 3)
